As you may know, there are a ton of activities that you can do in your free time. However, some people may find it hard to go enjoy the great outdoors, so in this post, I will guide you to some of the most popular ball sports to play at home.
1. Table tennis
Tennis can be seen on the big court, but some may find it less enjoyable to go outside. That is when table tennis comes into practice. Table tennis (or ping pong in some countries) is the kind of sport that you may want to play on and on once you get the hang of it. Many people play this sport for pleasure or recreational purposes. The reason is that this activity helps you to keep your body in shape. Playing it regularly can improve your physical health.
In addition to physical benefits, table tennis also contributes to the wellness of your mind. It may increase your concentration, brain function, and give you a sharp reflection from returning your opponents’ ball. Although it may appear to be a high-intensity physical activity, there is, in fact, a little chance of you having an injury. Some people refer to table tennis as a ‘high-speed chess’, you may play it quickly. However, you still have to use your brain wisely to defeat your opponent and win the game.
This sport requires a set of specialized tables for table tennis, a net, some ping pong balls, and a pair of rackets. Beginners may find it hard to play it as it is physically demanding, you will have to control your ball, learn how to return it, and learn how to move most effectively. However, once you are used to it, table tennis becomes a great way to upgrade your skills to the next level. Some professional players and experts have fleet footwork, hand-eye coordination, and a quick reflection after mastering table tennis.
To sum up, table tennis a friendly and enjoyable sport which can help you to reduce stress after hard-working days. Playing table tennis is not only entertaining but also beneficial to your mental and physical health. As a result, table tennis is a perfect indoor sport for your family at leisure time.

2. Billiards
Billiards is a cue sport that is originated in the UK. It is played on a board with six pockets. The balls are cannoned into the pockets with a cue stick. It was first introduced as a game in the 18th century and was very popular in some European countries especially, France, who brought some first changes to the game by including a red ball. The rules and objectives of billiards are apparent and somewhat easy to follow. ‘All the red balls are arranged in a formation. It is broken with a stroke using a cue stick. The players cannon the balls into the pockets. The player who pockets black ball in the end and ends with the highest score is declared winner’, Official Billiards Guidebook. Billiards can be played either at your local bars, or you can buy your own billiards set and play at your home, invite some friends over and that will be a great party to relax after work.
3. Squash
Squash itself is an improvised branch from its origin ‘Tennis’. If tennis is played on a spacious court, then squash is performed in an enclosed one with two to four players. The players’ goal is to strike the ball with their rackets while aiming at a wall opposite them. Squash isn’t considered a popular ball sport to play at home until now as more and more people start enjoying it. This is such an exciting sport because of how fast one game can last- it is pure, intense action from the beginning to the end. Some doctors may encourage playing squash for its health benefits such as cardiovascular improvement, weight loss, and excellent coordination and flexibility. It can also help you make new friends, and overly better your social skills.
The fun of squash lies behind the motions of the players and the teamwork. In this sport, you are required to play as a team, not individually, and your footwork must not collide with each other. Therefore, squash can be a difficult and challenging sport for some people. However, squash is one of the most popular sports in America because it asks people to challenge themselves, which brings plenty of fun while playing it. In other words, the mentioned difficulties are what make squash so enjoyable.
4. Basketball (Mini basketball)
What is the best way to show the next-door girls you really want to impress? Make a slam dunk. That is right, it is basketball I am talking about. Basketball is undoubtedly among the most popular ball sports you can play at home, and in American culture, basketball is only second to football in popularity. Michael Jordan or Larry Bird or even Shag O’Neil, those are a few among one of the best basketball players in the history of NBA, and their fortune can rise up to the 6-digit number.
Basketball can give you the benefit of an athlete as you have to do a lot of activities simultaneously such as dribbling, shooting, passing, blocking, and rebounding. Who says basketball is a sport for a crowd? Basketball- just like other sports- is perfectly fine to play alone, and in fact, most experts tend to practice themselves with the shooting and aiming. You do not even need a spacious backyard to play basketball, anywhere in your house high enough to hang the hoop and you are all set. You must ask ‘why does basketball attract so many people?’, let me tell you something, the parts that make it so appealing is the movement of the player is in harmony with the ball. The dribbling, the shooting, and the dunking, all that is enough to boost your confidence and attract the attention of your girls.
5. Golf
One day your boss calls and says ‘Hey, let us go for a match of gold this Sunday’, to most Americans that is a sign of victory. Once your boss invites you over a match of golf, it means that either you are among his most trusted employees, or you are getting a raise. Whatever it may be, golf itself is a sport of class and skills. Golf is believed to be created by the Dutch between the 14th and 15th centuries, back then it is only limited to royals. After that, the Scotch took it up and modified it to its modern form as we play today. The rules are quite simple with golf: aim for the holes and strike for the gold. Over time, more and more people played golf and soon it became a trend for the upper-class. Hundreds of country clubs were opened to attract thousands of players, and they all intend to play golf for work or for leisure. Indeed, golf has become quite a staple in the culture of the upper-class around the world. As a result, when you are feeling down, just buy yourself a set of golf kit and play at your own home as long as yours is big enough. Imagine yourself playing golf at your own house with your kids and spouses, what else can make it more lovely and enjoyable than the laughter of your family? Golf is an activity that can bring your family together and is a total package for your parties.
In conclusion, there are a lot of ball sports you can play at home that are both recreational and convenient. Some sports may require higher physical demand while others only just for fun or entertainment. You may have to purchase some special equipment to play and enjoy some of those activities. However, of course, they are not expensive at all. Finally, I hope that after this post, you can find out which activity to make the best out of your leisure time.
